Another Monster at the End of This Book was designed to be a complete and immersive experience. Therefore, the animation sequences within the story cannot be skipped. If you’d like to navigate to a different page, you may interrupt the animation sequence by opening the menu tray at the top of the screen.
Simply tap the arrow at the bottom right corner of the page when it becomes active. If you prefer to turn pages without any arrows, open the menu tray (at the top of the screen) and select “OFF” under the “Add Arrows” toggle. You will still be able to turn the page by tapping the corner. On certain interactive scenes (paper clips, blocks, glue, and steel wall), your child must complete a task in order to turn the page. Listen to Grover and Elmo for hints on how to proceed.
Our research with both kids and parents has shown that for children to fully experience important elements of the story, they should not have the option to interrupt the action. Therefore, the arrow buttons are inactive until the animations are completed. Once complete, the arrows will become active and tappable. Throughout the app, users always have the option of tapping the arrow at the top of the screen to open the menu tray and access the navigation menu. On the interactive scenes, the arrows are grayed out to indicate that you must solve a puzzle before proceeding.
You can access the parent tips from the home screen by tapping the parents tab, which is the uppermost tab on the left side of the screen. Here you will see a scrollable list of tips that have been developed with early childhood experts.
First, please make sure that your device is not muted. You can check this in your iPad or iPhone settings under “General.” Some applications (such as YouTube or Pandora) may override this mute function, but Another Monster at the End of This Book adheres to whichever setting you select.
