Celebrated fashion photographer and editor Kelly Klein curated a collection of beautiful, provocative images in the shape of the cross from the best photographers of the century.
Kelly Klein’s books, Pools, Underworld and Horse, have won much acclaim for their chic elegance. This lavishly produced book celebrated the myriad incarnations of the cross in fashion and fine-art photography of the past century. Here are images of the cross in both nature and the man-made world, in precious decorative objects and industrial architecture, in the shapes of the human body and in shadows.
The book featured photographs from the world’s most revered photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Horst, André Kertész, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Edward Weston, Man Ray and Robert Mapplethorpe. In addition to a preface by Kelly Klein, the book presented ruminations on the cross’s intriguing and unexpected meanings from a wide spectrum of voices including best-selling author Father Andrew Greeley, fashion guru Simon Doonan, Patrick McCarthy, and Bob Morris.
Kelly Klein’s photography has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, British Vogue, French Vogue, and Italian Marie-Claire.
